Andrea Uccellini & Formula’s Winning Ways

Formula is proud to support Andrea Uccellini, a rising motocross star who is quickly making a name for himself.

Andrea recently dominated his class at this year’s Motocross of European Nations in Romania, winning both of his races to help Italy secure the overall team victory. He is also leading the Italian 85cc Motocross Championship and, if all goes to plan, will take his third national title.

Andrea uses the same Formula brakes that have been developed in partnership with the Pierer Mobility Group. They use a larger floating caliper design to deliver ‘big bike’ performance for junior racers. They are the OEM standard fitted to all KTM, GasGas and Husqvarna 85cc motocross bikes.

We caught up with Andrea after a successful season.

Formula : Tell us a bit about yourself.

AU: I am Andrea Uccellini. I am 14 years old. I live in Tuscany, in Sansepolcro (AR).

When I was 1.5 years old I loved riding a small wooden bicycle that had no pedals or brakes, in fact I braked with my feet and very quickly my shoes had holes in them.

I got my first motorbike when I was 3 years old, that’s when this passion entered my life.

Formula : When did you decide to chase the dream of becoming an elite motocross rider?

AU: I started doing my first races at the age of 4 and since then my father Luca has always accompanied me. My dad and my brother, Simone, contributed a lot in passing on this passion to me.

For now I can say that I want to enjoy the present and do what I like most, which is to ride motocross and do it to the best of my abilities. And if I get some good results in the future, then so be it!

Formula : What are the biggest achievements of your racing career so far?

AU: The victories are all good, but the ones that have given me the most satisfaction are those achieved in the USA and the World Team Championship.

*Andrea is a multiple winner of regional qualifying races for the prestigious Loretta Lynn Amateur National Championships in America. He has represented Italy four times at the Junior Motocross World Championship, winning the overall twice.

Formula : What is the most important aspect of braking technique in motocross?

AU: For me the most important element is controlling corner speed.

I like to enter a corner hard but also be able to carry my speed the whole way through the bend. The braking has to be powerful but at the same time sensitive because I have to be as composed as possible when entering the corner. If I had power and no sensitivity or vice versa I would not be able to control my entry speed.

Formula : How do Formula brakes help you go faster?

AU: I like a very precise system with minimal lever travel, so that I can feel the braking in my fingers. Formula brakes are not spongy like other brakes that I’ve ridden, and they give me the feedback and control I need.

Safety is also very important to me and my family and Formula products guarantee me top performance and reliability at all times.

Formula : How has the 2024 season gone for you?

AU: I am happy with the results of my season but not 100% satisfied.

Unfortunately I’ve been a bit unlucky. I suffered two small injuries; one in Croatia during the European Championship selections, and one during training with the national team in Holland, due to which I had to compete during the Junior World Championship and the European Final with a broken bone in my hand. And in the second race of the World Championship I blew my engine up!

I’ve made up for those disappointments by winning the ‘Nations Trophy’ (the Motocross of European Nations). Hopefully I can take the Italian Championship as well. It would be a nice end to my final season in the 85cc class!

Formula : And what are your plans for the future?

AU: Next season I will switch to 125cc and I am still deciding together with my family which way to go. My family is very important in my choices and my growth as a rider. I hope they will always accompany me!
